Josiah Update
Today we got a call from Children's Mercy to say that Josiah had been transferred to the General ward out of the ICN. Due to staff defections at Research Medical Center after the sacking of Dr. William Topper - the NICU there has had to transfer their babies to other facilities. Josiah's first days of life were spent at Research and Dr.Topper was not only the guy who oversaw the NICU, but he was also Josiah's doctor and we only have good things to say about him. He was a good doctor and his staff loved him - so it doesn't come as a surprise that 9 out of the 13 Nurse Practitioners left with him. However many of the babies had to be transferred to Children's Mercy and as a result they moved some of the more stable babies to the general ward and Josiah was one. It means we get a private room - but the down side is that we don't get to keep our primary nurse carers - so Kristy and Jessica if you are reading this - please come and visit - we are room 13 on 3Henson.
On Monday Josiah was weaned completely off oxygen support, and he has been doing well. The reason he is still in the hospital is because he is having problems with eating or rather putting on the weight - I think last night he was a few grams lighter than the same time last week - still 4lbs 7oz. They are trying to fortify his feedings with fortifiers at first 22Cal and then 24 Cal - however it appears that Josiah hates the flavor - he eats really well usually and not nurses with Shari 3 times a day - but he doesn't much like the bottles with the fortifiers.
I think Josiah will probably come home next week if he can slowly put on a few more ounces.
He is doing great and for this we praise the Father in heaven - however there are a few things that you continue to agree with us in prayer
1) He needs to gain weight - he seems to have quite a bit of pain from stomach cramping which keeps him fussing - he needs to have peaceful sleep and peaceful feedings.
2) He remains at risk from ROP - there is no change here as of yet - so pray his eyes will be healed and whole
3) Pray for his leg and arm muscles - that they would become more supple - we are working with them to stretch them
Thank you
Lots of Love
Jono and Shari
